Business Union of Latvia is an employers’ organization representing SMEs in Latvia. It has been created after merging of two employers’ organizations into one to increase bargaining power and representation of interests at national and European level.

Business Union of Latvia has mixed membership and unites companies and associations representing different sectors and regions of the country. Organization also communicates with more than 5000 followers via social networks (Facebook and Twitter) on a regular basis. Additional activities and campaigns are organized to promote internship and apprenticeship in SMEs, occupational health and safety (OHS), better labour relations and Corporate Social responsibility (CSR).

Main objectives:
-support of SMEs by communication, exchange of information and share of experience;
– to consolidate, coordinate and represent the interests of SMEs in Latvia, EU institutions and SMEUnited;
-to implement initiatives, education and training activities for young people and adults to develop creativity and entrepreneurial spirit;
-work with State and local government institutions in the development of the policy planning and regulatory framework;
-work with SMEs, associations, experts, educational and scientific institutions to increase business activity, competitiveness and job quality;
-promote public awareness of the socio-economic importance of SMEs in Latvia.
-work for better implementation of “Small Business Act” and “Think small” principles.

Business Union of Latvia is a member of  SMEUnited formerly known as UEAPME, promotes social dialog and partnership with Trade Unions at the level of SMEs. Business Union of Latvia has formal structures such as board and council, has well organized administrative structure to provide information and services to members. It also has probably the biggest network of entrepreneurs  in Latvia following our social media channels. Member’s active contribution to organization activities ensures better access to experts and data. Managing personnel has a wide experience in projects such as ESF at national level, Interreg IVB, Leonardo Da Vinci projects, UN, NATO and at the same time manages their own businesses.

Most recent activities and awards received:
– national campaign to address small business society on internship for better vocational education and work based praxis for students;
– annual initiative “Support small business!” with more then 5600 registered participants (companies). In 2014 this initiative has been awarded from the European Enterprise promotion awards as National winner, received gratitude certificate from Ministry of Economics of Latvia and received “Award for Innovation in Multi-Sector SME Growth Strategy” from Acquisition International.
